A Life Coach’s Guide to Living by Choice not by Chance

Each day we make choices that influence our pace and quality of life, and many of these are unconscious. While it’s a good thing we don’t have to think about every little choice we make, when it comes to creating a whole, fulfilled, balance between work-related activities and the rest-of-our-life activities… it’s a good idea to wake up and smell the proverbial coffee. Otherwise, we can find ourselves living with the effect of our choices such as feeling overwhelmed, stressed, unhealthy, or out of control.

This is not about right or wrong, good or bad. I believe there are no mistakes, simply lessons learned. Living by choice, not by chance requires us to take responsibility for our own life. We get to choose if our experiences will be a sentence, paragraph, page or a chapter(s) in our life’s story.

So let’s get started…shall we?

Do the following calculation:

  • Subtract your current age from 90
  • Add two zeros to the answer
  • Divide that number in two

*This is roughly how many weeks you have left on this Earth, assuming you live to a very ripe old age.

If you smoke and don’t look after yourself properly, subtract 1,200 weeks.

It’s time to live by choice, not by chance. Here’s how:

LET GO: Release those people, places and things that no longer serve you. You have the power to forgive an apology you never received, past hurts that keep you resentful, and folks that drain your energy. Let go. Start anew.

CHECKLIST of things to let go:

  • Toxicity
  • Clutter
  • Blocks
  • Negativity
  • Comparison
  • Need to Please
  • Distractions
  • Old Belief System
  • Anger/Resentment
  • Ego

QUESTION: If not now, when?

ACTION: Let go of something that no longer serves you

BE INTENTIONAL: Setting a daily intention allows you to put a spotlight on your values and belief system. You have the opportunity to zoom in …focus on what you want your day to look like and execute it.

QUESTION: How will I show up today?

ACTION: Set an intention before leaving your home and revisit it throughout the day.

STRENGTHS: Use your time to be the best version of yourself. We live in a world of duality, so in any given moment live your higher self to gain the momentum in life you desire.

ACTION: Live your strengths, not your weaknesses.

BE DECISIVE: As a Lifestyle Coach, I get asked this question all the time, how do I make a decision and stick with it? When I’m coaching a client on decisiveness, I use a special technique that helps to find the space between head and heart to make fast decisions and be ok with the outcome. Again, find the space between what your head is telling you and your heart desires.

QUESTION: What do I really want at this very moment?

ACTION: Instead of putting that decision off to the side, face it head on by listening to head and heart to get the answer.

FREEDOM: Inner and Outer freedom is an essential ingredient to living by choice, not by chance. This takes practice, trust, and conscious living. Freedom means living in truth. Give yourself the opportunity to experience life through freedom #BestThingEver

QUESTION: How can I eliminate self-deceit?

ACTION: Get quiet and listen to your inner wisdom…it guides your outer freedom.

RITUAL: Creating daily habits puts all of the things you want to be and do into practice. Starting a new ritual creates a shift in your perspective and expands how you see your world around you.

QUESTION: What’s working for me, and what’s not?

ACTION: Plan your spring ritual; make life work for you rather than against you.

REFLECT: Reflecting on every area of your life provides opportunity for growth. Assessing where you’ve been, where you are, and where you want to be, gives checkpoints to your ultimate destination.

QUESTION: How can I get to where I want to be, in less time and more effectively?

ACTION: Write a goal in your journal, reflect on your writings and execute a plan to reach that goal in less time, more effectively.

To sum it all up, be at the cause, instead of the effect of your life. You are the head, not the tail. Write your own life story. You are the captain of the ship. How you show up in your life determines the outcome. It’s all about you!
