  2. So I stopped sugar and started using agave. Then someone said fruitcouse sugar like agave is even worse because the body stores more of it or something like that. Doctor please explain this please?

    • Thanks for your great question! Your body will only store excess sugar if you are consuming above and beyond your caloric needs. Eating more frequent, smaller meals that are balanced with protein, fats, fibre and sugars (which comes from veggies and fruits, as well as from sweeteners like agave) is the best way to do this. It’s true that fructose is processed by the body differently than glucose, but studies show there is no difference in fat storage when eaten in moderation. The negative effects of fructose occur when it’s consumed in high amounts because it’s processed completely by the liver. High fructose diets can lead to type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, insulin resistance and fatty liver. This is why high-fructose corn syrup is metabolically dangerous, and should be completely avoided. That being said, having a 1 tsp of agave in your tea each day isn’t going to cause any harm. The bottom line here is: use natural sugars, but always in moderation!

  3. Agree with side effects of artificial sweeteners. Is there any restriction for insulin resistant and glucose impairment people for sweeteners like honey, agave and very sweet fruits like banana, orange etc?

    • Reducing all sugar intake is best, but natural sugars like honey, agave, maple syrup, and raw coconut sugar are the best options for when you choose to indulge. Thanks for watching and commenting, Deborah!

  4. Great article. As a type 1 diabetic I was put onto sweeteners and they poisoned me, cause extreme fatigue, aching muscles and weak nerves causing numbness in my hands, I got rid of them and my body recovered within the week.
